Hello guys...I am new here. I recently bought a 94 Mighty Max...I have replaced the switch at the transmisson and checked all the wireing everything looks good I have no Idea were else to check. The backup Lights just stay on all the time with the key on. Is it maybe something to do with the clutch?

Check the plug under the rear of the passenger seat and also the plug at the rear of the frame, on the passenger side. Both go to tail light assem. I'll try to post the wire color code later, but you can pull a tail light to see which color goes to the back-up.

There's a ball bearing that rides on the plunger of the switch, inside the tranny. Make sure this is in place, although a missing bearing would cause the lights not to work at all. Sounds more like you've got a short/ground. Maybe up under the bumper.
Run it 'till it breaks and fix it faster!

Get a 12v probe light and check, in specific order, (with key on & trans in reverse):

1-Fuse 8, both sides;
2-red wire at trans. switch;
3-red/blue wire at trans. switch, (if this point is not hot then the switch is bad or the ball is missing);
4-red/blue wire at both connectors, (mentioned in my earlier post);
5-red/blue wire at bulb socket;

If you find a place mentioned that's not hot, then the problem is between it and the previous good test position.
if all these places test hot, then you have an open ground. If so then just ground the black wires coming off of the back-up light bulbs.
GOOD LUCK!

Guess I'm gettin' sometimers. Just noticed you said they're on all the time! For this you'll have to go backwards. Somewhere there is another wire, terminal in a connector or such shorted to the red/blue wire. With key on and NOT in reverse, start at the rear plug and unplug it.
Check the R/Blu wire on the front plug for voltage. If yes,
go to next plug under pasgr seat and do the same. If yes,
go to the trans switch and unplug it and check again.
When you find where the R/Blu wire is dead, then the problem has to be between that point and the last check point in which it was hot.
An educated guess would be the red wire is shorted to the red/blue wire with-in it's wire harness being it is only a small, taped harness and runs under the chassis in a not so pretty enviroment!
Hope This Helps!

I have been working on this problem for about a week now! 1989 MM 4x4 Manual. KM145 Transmission. Bought the OE Beck/Arnley switch and changed it out. Press the plunger, lights go off, let go of the plunger, lights come on. Screw the switch into the hole in the transmission, lights stay on, even when shifter is in reverse. I think that the transmission is not pushing the plunger down. I looked in the hole the best I could, and could not see a ball bearing. Is there really supposed to be one? My tranny is the original, and I'm pretty sure that the old switch was never changed out, so how could it be missing the ball bearing? LOL?

The ball bearing will fall out when you pull the old switch.
Run it 'till it breaks and fix it faster!
