ok i bought this truck and i like it... its 1988 2.0 5 speed
was leaking and burning lots of oil it was leaking from balance shaft seal and front crank seal. also from the headgasket at the rear (all valve stems seals too) still ran pretty good
. so i replaced all the seals on the front of the engine case new felpo head gasket ect .i bought a rebuilt head from a guy i know who had it on the shelf in his shop. it was from rams... he said it only had less than 500 miles on it and the motor it was on threw a rod... and it looked it. nice clean ..was however sooty in some cyls (see photos) so i replaced the head no more leaks and it runs great!!(thats the good news) but it had classic signs of leaky valve seals #1 and # 4 wet plugs was on all 4 before i installed jet valve eliminator kit..all o rings looked like too small to seal well..so i installed the jve kit.. smoking bad in the morning but after 10 mins running down the road cleared up pretty good but after idling 3-5 mins it returned,, compression good cyls looked good when i was in there,,no blowby at all..running strong...so i took off the exhaust http://www.flickr.com/photos/38966965@N05/manifold and tok some photos of the valve ports ,,,looky there #1 and # 4 exhaust valve seals seem to be leaking.. ..when i was installing the jve kit i inspected all the valve seals with a light ,all looked ok so was hoping it was the jet valve o rings that were causing the problem..put it together still same symptoms ..that is when i took off exhaust manifold and took some pics with my phone..(couldnt get my head in there with the exhaust mani in the way..so the head has all blue replacment type valve stem seals..i got a set of valve stem seals in my head gasket kit..oem i guess 4 are like the ones in my old head and 4 are diffrent type..all the aftermarket ones ive seen all 8 are the same .. this kit has 4with 2 metal rings ,and 4 like i have in my old head(all 8 same) i dont know why these are two diffrent types ..and which side to put the different ones on intake or exhaust...
