Hey Guys,
I have a 1990 Mighty with a little over 300,000 miles on it. It's showing 305,xxx and my speedo quit workin, so it has more than that now lol. Anyways, back to my subject. The way I run my truck I'm not sure how much longer my 2.4 is gonna last. I was thinking about swapping a 4g63t engine into my truck. Can y'all help me out with this? I know that wiring it will be the biggest "problem." I am wondering which rwd tranny bolts up to this engine. Have any of y'all done this swap? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh yea and just another quick question. How many rpms is a 4g64 able to safely turn?

The tranny that bolts up to the 4g63t is the narrow block KM132 5 speed manual from a 2.0L carbureted mighty max or d50. I have done the swap in my truck, if you have any questions just ask. Also check out hotrodcoffeeshop.com and projectzerog.com for tons of info and build threads

Thanks man. I was thinking that was the one that bolted up but wasnt sure. What kind of clutch are you running in your setup? Do you have to modify anything for a stronger clutch like using one out of an eclipse, talon, etc... or just a mighty max clutch? I ain't quite ready to do this swap just yet but im gettin my info ahead of time. Buying an eclipse or talon as a donor car is probably gonna be the easiest way to do this swap isn't it? Or should I just buy all the parts as I need them?

getting a donor car is definitely the best way to go, especially if you can find a wrecked one for a good price. You will want to run the 4g63 flywheel, with the center bored out to accept the pilot bearing that the truck tranny uses. Then if you arent going to crazy with mods you can use the stock 4g63 pressure plate and a oem g63b truck clutch disc. Or you can also get a custom pp and disk made up from someone if you want to go that route.

I thought getting a donor car would be the best option, just making sure. I looked at your build thread and you have a good lookin mitsu. Hopefully I get mine started sometime soon. How difficult was the wiring process? Do you have pics of this during your first 4g63t swap?

Thanks. No I dont have any pics of the wiring, its pretty much just shortening and lengthening wires so they will reach their spot with the motor sitting straight in a truck. Then connect some ground and a few power wires and such.

Would you say that the wiring is the most difficult part of the swap? If not, what is?

Yea I guess, but not if you know what your doing and how to read some elect. diagrams. I think the custom stuff you have to do is a little harder, making /modifying motor mounts, new o2 housing/down pipe, intake manifold, etc..

I think I can handle the custom fab work. I am pretty good at that kind of stuff. It is one of my favorite things to do. I made a 3.5" cowl hood for my mighty about 6 months ago. I'll try to get some pics up of that along with other pics of my little project. I think thats all the questions I have for now. I'm sure there will be more once I start the swap. Thanks for your help. I think I know what all I need to start this swap. Now it's time to start savin $$ and search for a donor car.
